We were delighted to welcome our former pupil, Matt, back to his Primary School to share and celebrate his Olympic Gold Medal with us. Some of his former teachers came back to enjoy the reunion as well. We really appreciated him taking time out to lead an Assembly and to take his medal around all the classes. His assembly was so inspirational to the children because he encouraged them to try all sports, keep active and take all available opportunities because he himself hadn’t taken up rowing until later on in life. The children were visibly thinking that an Olympic medal still remained a possibility for them! Matt was able to answer about 100 questions from the children ranging from favourite teacher (Mrs Lovelock), which House (Chad), marital status (unmarried), instruments played (flute and saxophone) to amount of training for the Olympics (he rowed to the moon and back, twice).
We enjoyed sharing some photos of Matt from the archive as well. I am sure the visit will remain with the children for a long time to come!
