Computing Vision 2025/26

Our Approach to Teaching Computing

Computing is taught across the school using the Teach Computing curriculum, ensuring clear progression and full coverage of the National Curriculum. Lessons are carefully sequenced to develop pupils’ understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy.

Pupils learn through a structured approach that includes modelling, guided practice and opportunities to apply skills through programming, digital media and data handling. Key areas include computing systems and networks, programming, creating media and data and information.

Online safety is a central part of the curriculum and is taught through Teach Computing, Project Evolve and Ten:Ten resources. This ensures a comprehensive, values-led approach that supports pupils to stay safe, act responsibly and develop positive digital behaviours.

Pupils are given regular opportunities to apply computing across the curriculum, particularly in Mathematics, Science and Design and Technology. Technology such as iPads and programmable devices supports hands-on, engaging learning experiences.

Our Core Aim for Pupils

Our core aim is for pupils to become confident, responsible and creative users of technology.

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will understand key computing concepts, be able to design and debug simple programs, and use technology effectively to create and communicate. They will also understand how to stay safe online and act as responsible digital citizens.

We aim for pupils to leave St Catharine’s prepared for the next stage of their education, equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to engage with an ever-evolving digital world.
