Religious Education

Our Religious Education Vision

“All children need to acquire core knowledge and understanding of the beliefs and practices of the religions and worldviews which not only shape their history and culture but which guide their own development. The modern world needs young people who are sufficiently confident in their own beliefs and values that they can respect the religious and cultural differences of others, and contribute to a cohesive and compassionate society” (Religious Education Council of England and Wales).

At St Catharine’s School, Religious Education lies at the heart of all that we do. As a core subject, it underpins and shapes every aspect of school life, guiding our relationships, decisions and the way we live out our mission as a Catholic community.

Our Curriculum

Through the To Know You More Clearly directory, we aim to lead our children into a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, while nurturing a personal relationship with God. Religious Education is not only about learning facts, but about forming the whole person—spiritually, morally and socially—so that each child may grow in faith, love and service.

We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child is valued as a unique creation of God. Pupils are encouraged to explore the teachings of the Church, reflect on scripture and develop their own sense of belief, while also learning to respect and understand other faiths and cultures.

Our teaching inspires children to think deeply, ask questions and respond thoughtfully to the world around them. Through prayer, liturgy and daily experiences, we help children to recognise God’s presence in their lives and to live out Gospel values such as compassion, forgiveness and justice.

Rooted in our Catholic identity, our vision is to nurture confident, reflective and compassionate individuals who are equipped to make a positive difference in their communities. We seek to ensure that every child leaves our school with a strong sense of dignity, purpose and vocation, ready to live out their faith in the wider world.

Inclusivity

Whilst our curriculum focus is on the Catholic faith, we respect and celebrate all faiths in our school community. We learn about other faiths in our curriculum and partake in trips to explore different places of worship each year.
