Our Approach to Teaching French
French is taught across years 2 to 6, using the Language Angels scheme to ensure a consistent, engaging and progressive approach to language learning. Lessons are carefully sequenced to develop pupils’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, with regular opportunities to revisit and build upon prior learning.
Teaching is interactive and inclusive, using songs, games and structured speaking activities to build confidence, accurate pronunciation and enjoyment. Language Angels’ assessment tools support teachers in monitoring progress and meeting the needs of all learners. Cultural learning is woven throughout lessons, helping pupils to develop curiosity and respect for other cultures.
French has been chosen as our modern foreign language because Chipping Campden is twinned with Pont-d’Ouilly in France, giving pupils a meaningful and relevant context for their language learning and strengthening links with the wider community.
Our Core Aim for Pupils
Our core aim is for pupils to develop a secure foundation in French and a positive attitude towards language learning. By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will be able to communicate using simple spoken and written French, demonstrate accurate pronunciation, and show an understanding of French culture.
We aim for pupils to leave primary school as confident, curious and motivated language learners, well prepared for further study and aware of the value of learning languages in an increasingly connected world.
